Beauty Maverick – making waves on the periphery of conventional beauty

Shortly after having arrived in England I was contacted by a London-based trend forecasting company by the name of LS:N Global, to do an interview regarding my views on natural hair and beauty.

The angle was quite interesting as I was 1 of 3 interviewees whose opinion was sought in relation to how the beauty industry often leaves certain members of the sector out. In my case, they found it intriguing that even though I consume western hair and makeup brands, I still go my own way by making certain products for myself because the hair industry doesn’t necessarily cater for my love of  natural, cruelty-free products that don’t contain any harsh chemicals. In the same instance the makeup industry often doesn’t cater for women of all skin tones. A every apt example of this would be where many women of colour, myself included, end up mixing our foundation shades ourselves as the perfect match simply isn’t always available. Granted, this is changing now, but it’s very often still not the case.
