News Round-up / What's been happening?

It certainly does seem like an age since I’ve sat down and written anything. If you don’t know, Rupert and I have now returned to the UK and we are happily settling back into Brighton life with Michael. All I can say is  “Dang, it feels good to have our family re-united again”.

The fact that I’m back in the UK does however mean that I’ve missed out on attending a few key events so I wanted to give you all an update on what’s been happening in (my) natural hair world lately.

Curls & Cocktails White in Winter

Cape Town Naturally, the collective I’m part of, hosted the second Curls & Cocktails event for the year on 24 June. It was held at La Bottega in Woodstock, and for the first time we tied a theme to the event – White in Winter – because as you know it’s Winter in the southern hemisphere at the moment.

We also had vendors selling products at the event, which was another first for Curls & Cocktails. Everyone who attended loved the fact that they could actually get their hands on some natural hair goodies.

Here are some photos from the event:

We have a Facebook page where we usually post entire albums of event photos so if you want to see more, you’d better like our page then.

Also, have a look at this video to see more of what went down. Feel free to get in touch with me if you’d like to collaborate and get involved with future Curls & Cocktails events. The next one will held in September.

Buuya Beauty Launch

I love it when my friends and colleagues come up with their own natural hair products because it shows how driven they are to meet a demand in the market that clearly still exists. The person who has been working hard to answer the call to meet this demand for the last few months is none other than Kasuba Stuurman, co-founder of Cape Town Naturally, with her brand-spanking new line called Buuya. She hosted a launch event on 20 June, which was attended by some of Cape Town’s natural hair bloggers.

So what exactly is Buuya?

Buuya is an authentically African hair product range that noticeably improves hair health for maximized length and moisture retention. The product range speaks to the African hair experience; encouraging women who have endured the struggle of having their hair referred to as “other” to embrace and love themselves.

Kasuba says that through Buuya, she wants to ensure that women of colour are well informed, well serviced and highly empowered. And with plant based extracts such as Mongongo Oil, Mafura Butter and Cape Coastal Honeybush being the active ingredients in the range, you can expect nourished, moisturised and strengthened hair. As to be expected the range is free from sulphates or parabens and is certified under Fair Trade.

Check out this link for a full list of products and prices. I must say that I’m super happy that they have a basic travel kit available of smaller sized products so you can try out just a few in the range for only R100! How cool is that?

I’d say the products I’m most excited to try out are the Cleansing Milk and the Intense Hair Masque. I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on those two.

Congratulations to Kasuba on the launch of her range of natural hair products. I’m over the moon for her. Be sure to check out the Buuya Facebook page to stay up to date with product news.
