In this post, we’ll explore the relationship between confidence and personal style, discuss the challenges women face in developing style confidence, discover how style can boost our confidence, and how confidence can enhance our personal style.

Challenges Women Face with Style Confidence

Let’s be honest, women face unique challenges when it comes to style confidence. The pressure to conform to societal standards can be overwhelming. Media and fashion industry ideals often leave us questioning our choices and our worth and the struggle to embrace our individuality can be a barrier to style confidence.

How Style Can Improve Confidence

We’ve all worn something out that we aren’t 100% comfortable with but wear it anyway. We then spend most of our time feeling self-conscious and tugging at our outfits uncomfortably. Despite our best intentions, we don’t feel stylish and we feel far from confident. I can vividly remember one day in my earlier years when I ended up at wedding with a dress so tight I could barely move! But I wanted to wear it because I thought it was stunning, yet the only size left in the store was one too small for me. I bought and wore the dress anyway, but boy did I regret it!

It’s essential to recognise that style is not just about following trends or fitting into a certain mould. Your personal style is a reflection of who you really are. When you embrace what makes you unique, you’ll exude confidence.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Self-Expression: “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” – Rachel Zoe

Personal style allows you to express your creativity and individuality. When you dress in a way that feels true to you, it enables you to shine.

2. Comfort is Key: “Style is not about sacrificing comfort. It’s about finding pieces that make you feel good both inside and out.” – Diane Keaton

Feeling comfortable in your attire boosts confidence. Choose clothing that fits well, suits your body shape, and makes you feel at ease. When you’re comfortable, you radiate confidence.

3. Power of Colour: “Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.” – Wassily Kandinsk

Colours have a significant impact on our mood and confidence levels. Experiment with colours that make you feel empowered and happy. A bold red or serene blue might just be your confidence-boosting shade. In my case, I love shades of dark and dusky pinks.

How Confidence Can Improve Style

Now, let’s flip the coin and see how confidence can enhance your personal style.

1. Experimentation: “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” – Coco Chanel

Confident women are more likely to experiment with new styles and trends. You’ll find that you’re willing to take risks and step out of your comfort zone, resulting in an evolving and unique personal style.

2. Better Decision-Making: “Fashion is not about following trends. It’s about finding what makes you feel good and wearing it with confidence.” – Anna Wintour

Confidence allows you to trust your instincts when it comes to fashion choices. You’ll be less swayed by external opinions and more guided by your inner style compass.

3. Poise and Posture: “Confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear.” – Anne Hathaway

Confidence affects your posture and how you carry yourself. When you exude confidence, you naturally stand tall and grace every outfit with elegance.

Actionable Tips

It’s easy for me to simply say, be more confident or, be more stylish but where do you start? Here are a few simple tips.

Tips for Developing Confidence:

  1. Self-Reflection: Take time to understand your likes, dislikes, and values. Self-awareness is the foundation of confidence. An example of this could be to think of a time when you felt great in an outfit and a time when you felt uncomfortable and taking the time to understand what caused those feelings.
  2. Positive Affirmations: Daily affirmations can work wonders in boosting self-esteem. Remind yourself of your strengths and beauty.  You don’t have to look in the mirror and talk to yourself if that makes you feel self-conscious. It could simply be a case of writing a list of things you like about yourself that you read daily.
  3. Practice Gratitude: Gratitude helps shift the focus from what you lack to what you have, increasing your confidence. Again, a good way to tackle this is to take the time to write these things down.

Tips for Finding Your Personal Style:

  1. Pinterest Mood Boards: Create a Pinterest board filled with outfits and styles that resonate with you. This visual guide can help you identify your style preferences.
  2. Wardrobe Edit: Regularly declutter your wardrobe and keep only what makes you feel fantastic. This will make it easier to see what works for you.
  3. Consult a Stylist: Consider seeking advice from a professional stylist who can help you discover your unique style and learn how to accentuate your best features. Alternatively, take a look at my YouTube channel where I’ve recorded a video about finding your personal style.
